How to troubleshoot mouse problems
Before starting, save your work and restart the computer. If the mouse still does not work, try the following steps based on the type of mouse you have:

  1. Wired mouse (Serial, PS/2, USB)
    1. Ball mouse
      1. Check the wire for breaks or bite marks
      2. Change the USB port
      3. Clean the mouse ball and
    2. Optical (LED)
      1. Check the wire for breaks or bite marks
      2. Change the USB port
      3. Check the mouse light is ON
    3. Optical (Laser)
      1. Change the USB port
  2. Bluetooth mouse
    1. Check if the mouse is "ON".
    2. Change the battery
    3. Check the Bluetooth connection
    4. Check the Device Manager to verify the device driver is installed properly
  3. Wireless mouse
    1. Check if the mouse is "ON".
    2. Change the battery
    3. Check if the radio receiver is plugged into the USB port
    4. Change the USB port
    5. Check the Device Manager to verify the device driver is installed properly
